Plaka is a tiny picturesque village located 16 km north of Agios Nikolaos town and 5 km from the cosmopolitan resort of Elounda. It is an old fishing village with a few seaside taverns and accommodations. Plaka lies amidst lush green surroundings while it retains its natural beauty. There is a beautiful square where all the locals and tourists gather during the day. Taverns serve delicious food.

The village offers access to the opposite islet of Spinalonga, one of the most interesting sightseeings of Crete. It used to be a former leper colony that was finally abandoned in 1957. Plaka is a lovely destination for your summer holidays and one of the best opportunities to enjoy the natural landscape and some hiking adventures.

Around the village you will find numerous caves and pristine beaches. Nowadays visits to Spinalonga are organized by boats from Plaka, Elounda and Agios Nikolaos.
